Tributes to Richard

We thank you for these and all the other tributes that we have heard about that mean so much to us.

In addition, the many beautiful letters, flowers, poems, photographs, and pictures from Richard's friends are all greatly treasured by his family. In due course we will create some sort of small museum to Richard.

The Richard Hamilton Memorial Horizon Walk

On a wet and windy Saturday in early September 2006 very many of Richard's friends set off on the Horizon Walk, a 32 mile trek over the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains . The event was organised by Kit Bingham. His parents provided warm and generous hospitality during the week-end. Kit is planning shorter Horizon Walks for the future.

The Hamilton Project

Working through his not-for-profit organisation Communities in Business, Russell Smith has developed a training scheme to help Royal Marines who are leaving the Service to start up their own business. www.hamiltonproject.org.uk

Rock Bench at Ledmore & Migdale

A stone seat is to be hewn from one of the rocks in this area. The seat has been designed by Richard's close friend, artist, and architect, Mark Power, to maximise the natural features within the rock . It will be carved by local stoneworker and sculptor Nigel Mullen. From this seat there are beautiful views soutwards out over the Doroch Firth. (photos)

The Hamilton International Award of Excellence

Set up by Philippe Wolgen, in association with Clinuvel Pharmaceutics, the annual award aims to help launch and develop the careers of outstanding individuals in the fields of photo-dermatology and skin cancer. "Richard's legacy lives on, and his wish to recognize human talent is personified in this award. His life achievements serve as an example for those receiving the award and as a reminder that time to excel is precious and short in one's life."

New York Marathon

Baz Subhashis, a colleague from Sheffield University Medical School , ran the 2006 New York marathon in Richard's memory and raised funds for 'Three Nations - Heart of Borneo' a WWF program to conserve the mountainous region of rainforest in central Borneo.

YUAS Trophy & Flypast

The Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron Families Day held at RAF Church Fenton on 30 June 2006 was marked by the inauguration of the Hamilton Trophy in Richard's memory. The trophy, the idea of two of Richard's contemporaries, Pilot Officer Cadets Stephanie Wilde and Barry McEvoy, is to be awarded annually for sporting achievement within the Squadron.

Sheffield University Medical School Tributes

At the 2006 Graduation Ball for the students in Richard's year at Sheffield University Medical School, 200 balloons were released in his memory. In October 2005 we joined a group of Richard's Sheffield medical student friends for a wonderful walk through some of the greener parts of Sheffield.
